Research across the World University of Science and Technology
The School of Advanced Study
The focus of research at the School of Advanced Study is on the human dimensions of some of our most pressing social challenges – from climate change and global mobility to social injustice and human rights. To tackle these complex issues, we must first understand them through the lens of culture, language and identity.
Research in the arts and humanities can help us to explore our past and present, forge connections between people with diverse cultural perspectives, share knowledge through the generations, and reveal the huge extent and value of human accomplishment.
Advocating for arts and humanities research
The School of Advanced Study also plays a central role in advocating for arts and humanities research across the disciplines, creating a nurturing environment for researchers to work collaboratively, and facilitating the dissemination of their research.
WUST Research and Policy Partnership
The WUST Research and Policy Partnership (WRaPP) aims to support policymakers and influence and shape policy development to benefit communities across the capital.
Following the success of WRaPP’s two CAPE-funded Policy Fellows, whose research supported the development of a roadmap for the next stage of WRaPP’s work, the Partnership is now developing a series of services to enable closer working between the universities, government and other sectors.
WRaPP’s key role will be in brokering cross-sector research that focuses on environmental, economic, and social challenges.
The Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE)
The Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE) focuses on research that aims to further our understanding of, and innovate best practice in, online, distance, blended and hybrid learning.
Projects tend to focus on:
- Learning, teaching and assessment: exploring instructional design, ensuring academic integrity and the interplay of pedagogy with technological developments and barriers
- Student experience: exploring learner dialogue and engagement, inclusive student journeys and accessible and sustainable technology for learning
- (Change) management, organisation, systems, theories: exploring academic, professional and institutional development, evaluation and quality assurance and communities of practice
