The aim of this program is to develop competencies in the area of private and/or international law, which are necessary for conducting activities in national, international, and transnational active institutions. As a student, you will become familiar with modern developments in the relevant fields. The broad selection between components of private and comparative international law allows students to shape their profiles in their own way: emphasizing comparative private law or international law, or combining components from both focuses to develop competencies that are best suited for future employment. The core courses are offered only in the first semester of the program, establishing essential competencies that are generally required in both areas of focus.

The methods employed are widely based on a blend of interactive teaching and the promotion of independent personal development through a combination of theoretical components and practical experience, aimed at developing the skills and values necessary for interpreting the law in accordance with human rights priority requirements, namely equality and proportionality.

Graduates will possess:

• Extensive and systematic knowledge in their chosen area of focus, fostering the development of key ideas and a broader understanding of the lawyer’s role in a changing environment.
• The ability to act in new, unpredictable, and interdisciplinary environments while evaluating complex legal problems and creating primary pathways for their resolution using the latest methods and approaches in analyzing legislative developments and judicial practices.
• The ability to make sound judgments based on critical analysis of complex and incomplete information (including analysis of new cases in the context of new legal regulations, judicial decisions, or recent research approaches) and the capacity to integrate new innovative data with older information.
• The ability to communicate their judgments, arguments, and research methods to the academic and professional community in English, considering standards of academic integrity/disclosure and recent advancements in information, technology, and communications.
• The ability to manage their learning process independently, determine the combination of theoretical components and practical experiences, and expand their knowledge based on recent methods through generalized analysis of primary sources, academic articles, and court decisions.
• The ability to evaluate their own and others’ attitudes towards values, analyze existing legal values considering the fair balance of party interests, and where necessary, assist in creating new values. They will develop the values required for interpreting the law in accordance with human rights priority requirements (i.e., equality and proportionality) and contribute to creating new solutions.
